Buy OSRS Gold RuneScape maker Jagex has reported all-time high revenue for 2019 with membership for its MMO hitting a new all-time peak.
As Massively Overpowered points out, this would make RuneScape Old School one of the five most played games currently on Steam. This is a particularly remarkable achievement, if you consider that this version of the MMO came out way back in 2007.
That's according to lead content developer Kieren "Mod Kieren" Charles, who called the news that the game had 157,445 players on Twitter (below). GamaSutra also reports that another Twitter user showing a peak of 165,072.
The background of the Old School Runescape was also unique when in 2013 the original Runescape saw a significant decline in life. The CEO of the game studio at that time, Mark Gerhard, posted a vote on the game's homepage announcing that there was a backup that was left over as of August 2007.
“Jagex continues its journey of growth and investment and 2019 was an extraordinary year as we welcomed more players to our living games of RuneScape and Old School RuneScape than ever before, taking the company over the £100m-plus revenue mark for the first time in our history," CEO Phil Mansell (pictured) said.
The main reason for the dizzying increase in players in the Old School client is to be found in the release of League 2: Trailblazer, and the introduction, last Wednesday, of some hardcore servers: these temporary servers offer a more difficult experience and obviously they are aimed at to an already highly experienced audience.
